Description

As a Cost Estimator at Adkins Landscape Contracting, you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase of projects by accurately assessing and forecasting project costs. You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and design teams to develop comprehensive estimates that align with project specifications and client budgets. Primarily office-based, with occasional site visits to assess project conditions and meet with team members. It may require working extended hours during peak bidding periods.


 

Job Responsibilities

  • Project Review: Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates.
  • Cost Analysis: Gather and assess data on labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs to determine project budgets.
  • Bid Preparation: Prepare detailed and comprehensive bid proposals for projects, ensuring all potential costs are accounted for.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, and engineers to clarify project requirements and gather necessary information.
  • Vendor Relationships: Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and availability of materials and services.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Cost Monitoring: Assist in tracking project costs throughout the construction process, identifying variances from the initial estimates.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present detailed cost estimates and reports to management and clients as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of estimating processes and methodologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools for constructing or repairing outdoor landscapes, parks, recreation areas, buildings, Planting, or other structures such as highways and roads.
  • Using mathematics to solve problems.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Listen fully to what others say, take time to understand their points, ask questions as appropriate, and do not interrupt at inappropriate times.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or problem approaches.

 

Education and Requirements

  • 5+ years' Experience as a landscape estimator, construction estimator, landscape project manager, or with an estimating background is a plus.
  • Experience bidding valued at $250,000 or more
  • Strong knowledge of cost control and contract management principles
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, a degree in construction management, landscape design, or a related field, is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office.
